Our History

The Mid North Coast region has been producing certified orangic produce for many years. Traditionally growers have been price takers and have had to spend their time developing markets where this is not necessarily their key skill.

In July 2005, results of a survey carried out by Mid North Coast Regional Development Board showed:

  • 88% of those surveyed are owner/operated organic farming enterprises,
  • 12% of the remaining surveyed (above) lease or manage organic enterprises,
  • 20% value-added produce grew on their farms,
  • 40% of the respondents indicated organic production is the principal income source,
  • 92% of respondents indicated positive to shareholdings in proposed market company due to problems associated with markets, marketing, sales and supply chain gaps.

The commencement of the Organic Marketing Company was started by a regional organic farmers association Mid North Company Organics Inc.

This association could see a need for a separate body to trade in certified organic and bio-dynamic produce with the help of the Regional Development Board application for funding was sort to help establish the Organic Marketing Company in August 2005 National Food Strategy funded the initial stages of a business development plan for the formation of a marketing entity. This included four meetings with an independent agri-business consultant.

In October 2006, the NSW Dept of State and Regional Development contributed to the initial set-up costs, of the Organic Marketing Company Pty Ltd. through their New Market Expansion Project. On the 14th of March 2007, the Organic Marketing Company was officially registered.
